David Nydam

Celebrating

David Nydam
12-11-60 to 11-18-21

Dave was born in San Diego on Dec. 11, 1960 as the 3rd of 5 children (Jack, Jim, Dave, Sallie and Bob) to Donald and Esther Nydam. The family moved to Moraga, California and then to La Canada when Dave was in elementary school. He grew up in the La Canada schools and enjoyed playing on the football and baseball teams. Dave got his degree in Finance and went to work for IBM from graduation until June of 2020. Dave married his high school sweetheart Linda Bierling in May 1983 and had 2 children, Lauren (married Jacob Hockett and has 2 girls Cathrine and Aoife) and Daniel (married Jessica Benson and has 1 girl Abrielle).

Dave loved spending time with the kids and grandkids and the entire extended family. He also loved golfing and tennis with his friends, fishing, surfing, gardening, teaching Sunday School, leading small group Bible studies, coaching softball and Y Winners basketball, serving on the La Canada Parks and Recreation, serving as an elder and deacon in various churches, traveling, the Dodgers, and learning new things about people he met. Dave’s curiosity about life and people knew no bounds. He was a man of faith who loved God and lived out that faith by loving others. His love for his family and friends and his laughter and joy will be missed by his children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, and many friends but we know he has been reunited in heaven with his parents, grandparents, his mother-in-law, brother-in-law and many aunts and uncles and cousins who have gone before him.

Wow - softball travels, drama and everything else wouldn't have been so fulfilling if it hadn't been for Dave sitting by my side in every game and cheering on Lauren and Katie. I will see you again Dave and we will get the softball thing going again in heaven. Blessings, Dave, Katie and Debbie

Even though I haven't seen Dave in decades, I will never forget his contagious laughter and joy-filled eyes. Much love to you, Linda.

Dave and I met on the softball field, first as opponents in the Men's Church league in Burbank (some great Bethel vs Calvary Bible games). Though fierce competitors for many years, we had a good friendship. But that friendship took off when our daughters (Lauren and Laura) became teammates in Middle School softball at Village Christian, and were a 'dynamic duo' as Pitcher and Catcher all the way through High School at VCS. Their partnership gave Dave and I countless hours to enjoy talking softball, parenting, things of the Lord, and other mutual loves. We seemed to just be on the same page on so many things whenever we would get together. His intense competitive spirit was always done with great respect which I so appreciated. He was a coaches dream as a perfect parent of a player, not just because of our competitive spirits, but his constant encouraging words. Several years later it turned out our offices were in buildings next to each other so we would run into each other and go down Memory Lane which was just a real treat for both of us. I loved those run-ins! To the core a true friend, a gentleman, and wonderful example of a man who loved his Savior Jesus Christ, his wife Linda, children Lauren and Daniel and their spouses, and certainly his grandchildren. "Well done Dave Nydam! You ran the race well! Thanks for being my friend!" :)
